Surrogacy

The Journey of a Two Time Surrogate

A conversation with Debi’s best friend, who was struggling with health issues, led her to consider becoming a surrogate. It would be amazing if he could help her have a baby. As it happened, his friend got pregnant, he didn’t think about it anymore. Three or four months later, he noticed on Facebook that one of his college classmates, whom he hadn’t spoken to in years, needed a replacement. He mentioned working with Surrogate Solutions. Lying in bed that night, Debi realized she needed to investigate this company. He submitted his application that evening. A few days later, an email arrived saying that Surrogate Solutions was interested in her joining the program! That’s where it all started.

As an alternative, Debi’s experiences are less impressive. Her first experience was for a couple who were having their second surrogate baby. She said “It was a sibling trip. The older boy knew that I was carrying his sister, but he was incredibly young. He only knew that my sister was in my belly. However, all the same our families connected instantly. Even our husbands had a bromance! The intended parents attended all the doctor’s appointments, and we met before and after for breakfast or lunch. We’re still in touch today.”

For her second surrogacy journey, Debi is carrying the intended parents’ first child. He said, “Right now, it’s not clear how these two journeys will differ. I expect the delivery process to be more emotional for them since this is their first child. They faced challenges and obstacles throughout their journey. Before me, the couple had never had a positive pregnancy test. This trip also developed a wonderful close relationship for us as a family with the intended parents and their families. I met even Chelsea, the egg donor in a photoshoot for this trip. Immediately, I felt like I met my long-lost sister. She complemented Christi and I perfectly. Although we had never met before, it felt like pick up where we left off.”

Having experienced two trips, Debi says what stands out the most is the support both families give not only to her but to her family as well. “Although I have been paid, I am overwhelmed by the amount of love and gratitude we have received from not only the parents, but their support systems and friends as well. I was blessed to be invited to baby showers, which gave me the opportunity to meet many of these wonderful people in person. “

“It was an incredible experience. Being able to teach my own children compassion and openness is amazing. As a parent, I was concerned that it would seem strange to them and their friends, however, it was never an issue. My kids just tell their friends that mom is carrying a baby for someone whose stomach won’t work. I also learned during this process that many of my close friends have experienced pregnancy-related problems, and now I am fortunate enough to serve as an advocate for them.”

Debi says many people ask why she wants to do this; It’s simple “My desire to do this is driven by my love of being a mother, and if I can give another woman that gift, then I will. I am such an advocate for surrogacy. I wish more people were open minded about this. I also want others to know how grateful I am to be a part of Surrogate Solutions. Without Surrogate Solutions and their amazing team, none of this would be possible and wouldn’t be as smooth as it is. “
