Registry Info You Need to Know

One of the most memorable parts of pregnancy is the first time you step into a baby store and try on all the products you’ll be using every day in just a few short months. Channel your inner Goldilocks and sit in every rocking chair until you find the right one, and roll every stroller in stock to find the one with the best glide. But for just a few short days, fewer places will offer the in-store testing process.

Buy Buy Baby’s parent company, Bed Bath & Beyond Inc., filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on April 23. Parents received an email on Sunday informing them that the stores had begun winding down operations.

If you currently have a Buy Buy Baby registry, you probably have a lot of questions. Members of the What to Expect community also want to know what to do with unused credit and gift cards — some plan to hit a store soon to pick up expensive items like travel systems and cribs while Buy Buy Baby is still accepting coupons.

While the company hasn’t said when the website or apps will shut down, here’s what we know so far about coupons, gift cards, the registry and the upcoming liquidation sale.

Yes. On Sunday, April 23, Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. announced. that it will close its 360 Bed Bath & Beyond stores and 120 Buy Buy Baby locations in the near future. A liquidation sale will begin at all locations on Wednesday, April 26, and will run while inventory lasts.

The company expects to process returns and exchanges through May 24 for any items purchased before April 23. All stores will close by June 30, according to the bankruptcy filing.

What will happen to the Buy Buy Baby registries?

Buy Buy Baby will retain enrollment data after stores close, it said FAQ page. Customers can no longer purchase gear through Buy Buy Baby, but the company is working to partner with other platforms for parents to transfer their data and complete their enrollments elsewhere.

If your friends or family have purchased items online in the last few days, Buy Buy Baby will still fulfill and deliver all in-stock orders. We’re waiting to learn more about what to do with an unused registry completion discount, but your best bet is to claim that coupon along with everyone else before April 26.

Just days before the bankruptcy announcement came, Buy Buy Baby expanded its registry offerings to include cash funds — allowing friends and family to give money to expectant parents using cash apps like Venmo. More information on the future of active registrations is expected to be announced in the coming days.

Will Buy Buy Baby coupons and gift cards still be accepted?

However, you can still use gift cards until May 8, pending inventory availability. You can also use Welcome Rewards+ store credit during this time.

More information about the bankruptcy process and store closings should be announced in the coming days. If you have concerns about your enrollment or active orders, you can find the Customer service FAQ on the Bed Bath & Beyond website.
