5 Hip Shift Exercises For Healthy Hips And A Strong Butt

The Plan for a Healthy Home Changes As You Age

I recently read this quote:

“Perhaps walking is best thought of as an “indicator species,” to use an ecologist’s term. And indicator species indicate the health of an ecosystem, and its endangerment or decline can be an early warning sign. of systemic trouble. Walking is a kind of indicator for different kinds of freedom and pleasure: free time, free and attractive space, and unfettered bodies.”

He sighed. As I watch my older family members get older, and I watch my colleagues start to feel the pain of aging joints, I value my mobility even more.

Mobility is autonomy.

And this is something that needs to be cultivated and maintained over the long term, not just during injury and rehabilitation. And not only when the lack of mobility begins to feel acute in old age.

Pregnancy and postpartum is a life event that affects our mobility. Perhaps not serious, but they provide an opportunity to “tune up” our movement habits.

The hip shift exercise is one of the most important movement skills you can learn during your childbearing years. It’s a simple way to restore range of motion lost during pregnancy and to support healthy, strong hips and glutes that will keep you walking easily and moving well into old age.
