Abortion Radicals are Putting Women’s Health at Risk With Dangerous Abortion Pills

The abortion industry and its allies are desperate to keep the abortion pill regimen—mifepristone and misoprostol—on the market almost unregulated for good. But their wishes have dangerous consequences. Lawyers, legislators and pro-abortion activists are shamelessly putting women’s health at risk by advocating the elimination of any oversight for these powerful and life-ending drugs.

Right now, the US Supreme Court is allowing chemical abortion to stay on the market. The Court filled the pause in the Texas US District Court’s order to suspend FDA approval of mifepristone, issued in a case in November 2022 challenging the approval of the abortion pill regimen and lax regulations surrounding its access. Whether the order stands now will depend on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, which will prepare an appeal from the District Court case. The medical associations and doctors who initiated the lawsuit are concerned that the FDA has failed to consider the many safety risks posed by access to chemical abortions—and rightly so.

Often delivered by mail right to a woman’s doorstep, chemical abortions prevent the opportunity for medical evaluation by a health care practitioner, putting the lives of mother and child at risk. Refusal of personal medical screening risks delaying screening for and treatment of ectopic pregnancy, a dangerous condition seen by ultrasound, which can be fatal in the case of a chemical abortion.

A peer-reviewed studies of 423,000 taxpayer-funded abortions found that the number of emergency room visits related to chemical abortions exploded from 2002 to 2015, even more than total emergency room visits for complications from surgical abortions. In addition to the immediate danger, women face more long-term effects from ending innocent lives in their wombs.

There is no question that whether through pills or surgery, abortion can take a toll on women’s mental health. Learning out that abortion recipients experience consistently higher levels of depression, anxiety, substance abuse disorders, and PTSD than women carrying their children to term. These women also exhibit more self-destructive behavior and face a higher suicide rate six times higher than women who do not accept abortion. In fact, more than 20 percent of college women experience suicidal thoughts for the first time after an abortion, causing them to feel shame, self-loathing, and repeat abortions.

These grim statistics don’t seem to bother the abortion industry, which has a financial incentive to oppose restrictions on the pill or otherwise. billion dollars business at risk. Some lawyers are encouraging doctors who would risk prescribing abortion drugs off-label if the Supreme Court banned mifepristone, while others urged President Joe Biden to Ignore it any future court decision restricting access to the drug. Be the Canadian government suggested that it would give mifepristone to American women.

The New York Times recently reached up to suggest that if mifepristone were made illegal, “patients in states where abortion is prohibited could get away with ordering the pills online for personal use,” such as by selling the drug overseas. Women who follow this illegal recommendation will continue to put themselves at risk of dangerous abortion drugs without prior medical examination from a physician.

The governor of Oregon, Democrat Tina Kotek, has taken steps to a new extreme by storage three years worth of mifepristone for use depending on the outcome of the pending Supreme Court case. His stockpile contained enough drugs to end more than 22,000 innocent lives. Other states, including Washington, California, New York, Maryland, and Massachusetts, are following his lead and stockpiling bulk amounts of the abortion pill for future use. Whether they realize it or not, Gov. Kotek and other lawmakers put a radical agenda on abortion over women’s health and safety.

Women and their unborn children deserve better. Pro-abortion activists and lawmakers must stop endangering women’s welfare in favor of their extreme abortion agenda, regardless of the courts’ ruling on the regulation of chemical abortions.
