Ageism — Doulas of Capitol Hill
We recently shared that our Statement of Inclusivity and Beliefs has been plagiarized on other websites. This really annoys us in many ways. First because we put too much thought and care into crafting those words to reflect our personal values. Second because over the last year and a half we’ve put a lot into our agency to make sure we’re not just saying these words, but we’re taking actions to make sure we’re truly reflecting them.
And while ensuring that our agency and our team members are held accountable and protect the rights of our clients, these words also mean that we expect our clients to have the same value of respect and being including our team members. Our promise to you is that we will keep our word and make sure, to the best of our ability, that you and your families feel safe and heard. That your personal beliefs and values are respected. And in return, we ask you to do the same when working with our agency. Our team members range in race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, ability, age, and weight. What doesn’t change is our confidence in choosing people whose values align with ours. Doulas of Capitol Hill know that childbirth is some of the most personal and intimate work there is and we don’t take that lightly. You can be confident that each member of our team has been carefully selected to represent our agency. That they have the knowledge and expertise to do the job. We understand that choosing who to take this journey with you is a very personal choice and we respect that, as long as your reasoning for not working with someone on our team is not discriminatory. Please keep this in mind when choosing to work with our agency. If our Statement of Inclusivity and Beliefs doesn’t resonate with you, maybe we’re not the right fit.
We believe:
In inclusivity, respect for each family, and participation in dialogue and education to engage in growth and understanding among those in our communities.
That for our business to thrive we must embrace diversity in our staff and our clients.
In non-judgmental support of every family, including but not limited to people who identify as LGBTQIA and/or gender non-binary.
Black Lives Matter.
Racism, bigotry, discrimination or hatred based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability, religion, age, weight, or relationship will not be tolerated or tolerated.
All faiths (or lack thereof) are welcome.
A person with a disability, whether physical or mental, has the right and ability to be a parent.
No one is illegal.
Every person has the right to bodily autonomy and informed consent.
Our job is to support each family to help them gain confidence and power over their choices.
