Be Fruitful and Multiply – Abrahamic Covenant Restated to Isaac and Jacob — The BIRTH CONTROL Movie Project

In Jacob’s dream of a ladder to heaven in Luz, he was promised to be fruitful and abundant.

“12 He dreamed, and behold, a ladder was placed on the ground, the top of which reached to heaven; and behold, the angels of God ascend and descend upon it. 13 And behold, the Lord stood above it, and said, I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie, I will give it to you and to your descendants. 14 “Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will be scattered to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and in you and your descendants all the families of the earth will be blessed. 15 Behold, I am with you, and I will keep you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I promised you.” (Gen 28:12-15 NAS95)

Jacob remembered this promise years later in the last days of his life when he passed the blessing on to Joseph’s children (Jacob’s grandsons and Abraham’s second grandson) by adopting them into his family as later tribes of Israel.

“3 And Jacob said to Joseph, “Almighty God appeared to me in Luz in the land of Canaan and he blessed me, 4 and he said to me, ‘Behold, I will make you multiply and multiply, and I will make you a company. of people, and will give this land to your descendants after you as an everlasting possession.’” (Gen 48:3-4 NAS95)

Jacob remembered the blessing again.

“God also said to him, “I am God Almighty; be fruitful and multiply; A nation and a group of nations will come from you, and kings will come from you.” (Gen 35:11 NAS95)

Thus, the Abrahamic Covenant was restated and ratified by Abraham’s grandson Jacob, who was the Father of Israel. As with Isaac, this includes the commandment to “be fruitful and multiply.”
