Be Fruitful and Multiply – The First Creation Commandment — The BIRTH CONTROL Movie Project
Today, I will begin a series of blog posts on the commandment of the Bible “be fruitful and multiply.” I will follow this thread through the entire 3,600 years of Old Testament Bible history, starting from Genesis 1 to Malachi 4. I will show the verse, with a brief heading and date, and offer a brief comment view.
Date: 4004 BC – Year: 0 – Ref: Gen 1:28;
“God blessed them; and God said to them, “be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves on the face of the earth.” (Gen 1:28 NAS95)
On the sixth day of creation, God commanded Adam and Eve to rule over His creation. This is known as the Dominion Mandate. The command is for both of them – husband and wife. There are two main parts to the Mandate:
- inhabiting the earth, and
- subjugation of the earth.
These two facets are interrelated. The world cannot be conquered unless it is inhabited. Subjugation does not refer to any particular point in history, but rather a continuous administration throughout history. This command was given to God’s people.
