Here is my latest creation: a jungle diaper cake or maybe I prefer to say a Jungle Book diaper cake!

So, the nursery theme of the boy this cake is a gift for, is Jungle Book. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much merchandise available for Jungle Book so I did at least a mix of Jungle Book and jungle in general. And a big stuffed Baloo the Bear is my main piece.

This diaper cake technique is definitely one of the quickest and easiest ways when it comes to making a diaper cake. There is no need to roll the diapers which also means they are easier to use for the baby.

A jungle diaper cake is suitable for girls and for boys. You can also add a little pink for a girl or make it neutral with only yellow, orange, brownish or green colors. Because the jungle is full of these colors that really go with the theme!

How to Make a Jungle Diaper Cake

What you need:

• a burp cloth, preferably with an elephant, monkey or different jungle animal design, but a plain one is fine too – the size should be approx. 30 x 30 inches
• a large cuddly plush animal, such as an elephant, monkey, tiger, or a Jungle Book character such as Baloo the Bear
• 2 pairs of socks, plain or jungle or safari design
• a pack of diapers (depending on the size of your cloth and how you fold it, you will need more or less diapers)
• pacifier with jungle design (lion and “roar” written on it)
• various small decorations (pickers, welcome baby sign / lettering, foam jungle animal sticker, “with love” sticker, baby spoon and ribbon bow,…)
• different ribbons
• 3 rubber bands

How to make your basket:

For your basket, lay out your fabric (the ideal size is about 30 x 30 inches) and fold it completely so that it doubles. It doesn’t matter where the open and folded parts are. But you can think about your pattern (if applicable) and place the fabric in such a way that the pattern eventually fits is not pictured upside down.

Then take one side and fold it, measuring approx. 4 in, as shown here.

Take the wrong side of your fabric and fold it around (picture on the left). Fix with a rubber band (pictured right).

As done on the left side, repeat on the right side. This will make a round or oval basket out of your fabric. If you think your basket is too small or too big, adjust the size by sliding the rubber bands back and forth. You can also wait and only adjust the rubber bands once you have your diapers and the cuddly toy in your cloth basket.

Depending on your fabric design, again make sure the pattern is not upside down 🙂

How to make your cake:

Once your fabric basket is ready, place your cuddly toy inside and then fill with diapers, stacked and/or folded. As mentioned above, adjust the size of the basket as needed by moving your rubber bands back and forth. If you like, tie some curly ribbon to your rubber bands.

I used both stacked and rolled diapers for this gift because the diapers have a koala design. Rolling up some diapers and taking them out (at the back end of the basket) revealed a koala design that complemented the jungle theme.

Make a baby diaper with 2 different socks and a cupcake socks along with two others. Use a rubber band to hold the cupcake and add a curly ribbon. Stick between your diapers. You can see my rose / cupcake sock on the right side of the diaper cake, I placed a small white artificial rose bud on top.

Add some ribbon to your pacifier and stick between diapers.

Place pickers and stickers in between and on your diaper cake.

If you want to fix a ribbon bow on your jungle diaper cake, get a plastic baby spoon, fix your bow there and then stick the spoon to the diapers.

When your jungle diaper cake is ready, take a large piece of clear cellophane gift wrap foil and wrap your cake to keep it clean. The foil also prevents things from falling when carrying your cake. Lavishly decorate with ribbons.

You can make this type of diaper cake with all kinds of themes by choosing other stuffed animals and accessories such as:

So this is a similar lion themed cake for a baby boy. It’s really colorful and features a small cuddly lion toy, a baby diaper with a lion “roarrrrr” sock, a lion pacifier and two cloths with a zoo and jungle animal design.

This diaper cake “sits” in a box and also has the baby’s name on it. This type of pampers cake is quite easy to make as you just stack the diapers in the box and then place or stick your items between the diapers. The box is really handy as it is collapsible for easy storage when you don’t need it.
