Guide to Planning a Virtual Baby Shower
Planning any party can be stressful. Navigating all the moving logistics is no small task, and when you add to pregnancy the brain all bets are off the table. So whether you’re planning a baby shower for yourself, or for someone you love, we’ve got the guide for you! Still navigating the world of in-person events, we decided to ask for help from one of our favorite food bloggers, Amanda Willens to help list a virtual baby shower planning guide. These tips Amanda has put together a complete guide for all of you to help with your planning process. Scroll through to read all her tips!
Create a Budget
The first step in party planning is figuring out your budget and who will pay for it. Think of every element for the event: personalized boxes, shipping, and special gifts for parents.
Do the Guest list
Talk to parents to find out how many people there are, get their mailing addresses, and email addresses. This will affect your budget, so you may need to change items for each person to make it work.
Find Date and Time
Find a date that works for parents and their most important loved ones to video call. And how long the call should be 1-2 hours should be enough time.
Create and Send Invitations
Invitations for events should be sent 6-8 weeks in advance. You can go earlier, but 6 weeks should be the latest you send invitations, then make sure you send reminders closer to the event date. Since this event is online, I suggest going virtual for invitations as well. A site like Evite is great because you can customize it, add details like a registry, and even have a system for video calls now.
Choose a Theme
Everyone loves coming up with a theme that ties all your pieces together. It also makes your baskets look 10 times better by coloring and/or coordinating them. With this lemon theme, it was beautifully made to be gender neutral. Such a fun theme and perfect for so many seasons.
Schedule Special Items for Parents
It’s nice to be able to send something special for them to make their day even better. Find local businesses that can create and deliver an on-theme mini cake and a flower arrangement.
Buy and Assemble Baskets
Build a few pieces that you can fit into your budget and theme that will be safe for shipping and hold up until the event date. Some fun stuff included:
Eco-friendly shipping stuffing from Etsy.
Fun digital pages and games with a lemon theme also from Etsy.
Buttons for “mama to be”, “grandma to be”, etc. from Etsy.
Super cute “Oh Baby” cocktail stirrers from Creative Amme is just perfect.
Recipe printout for Lemon Mocktail recipe.
Custom lemon-themed cookies from The Cookie Meister in Orange County.
Custom candles from Terra.
Shipping Baskets
You want to time it out so the boxes get there a few days before the event. You will need to think about shipping, boxes, tape, etc. And plan some time to assemble the baskets, package the boxes, and ship.
Create an Agenda
Keep a loose agenda for the video call and check in with the parents to see what they want to do and what they don’t want to do. You can do some of the printable games, open presents, and chat.
