A hospital in the Czech Republic mixed up patients and aborted the wrong woman – killing her perfectly healthy baby.
A medical error on March 25 occurred in a hospital in Prague, where a healthy 4-month-old baby died in a botched abortion.
The pregnant mother should be given a routine medical examination when she is sedated and, instead of a full exam, her baby is aborted.
To add insult to injury, the hospital simply called the killing of her baby “an unfortunate event.”
“An adverse event occurred in our Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic,” hospital spokeswoman Eva Stolejda Libigerová told CNN Prima. “According to the findings so far, as a result of serious violations and non-compliance with internal regulations by the employees concerned, an operation was initiated on a wrongly identified patient.”
A spokesperson added to Prahain.cz, which broke the story: “We express our deep regret and apologize to the patient and his entire family for this unfortunate incident and assured him that we will do everything to minimize the damage as much as possible and likewise. repay him.”
“As an accredited teaching hospital, we clearly define the policies and procedures that our medical staff are obligated to follow without exception,” the spokesperson said. “The affected clinic staff have been terminated pending a full investigation into the adverse event, with the understanding that, in the event of a violation of existing work procedures as part of the ongoing internal investigation, those particular individual is personally liable.”
