Infographic: How Does IVF Process Work?

How does the IVF process work? In-Vitro Fertilization ( IVF ) makes families possible for many couples who are infertile with invasive medical procedures.

In vitro, fertilization stands for IVF. This is one of the most well-known types of Assisted Reproduction Technology (ART). IVF is a combination of medication and invasive surgery for egg retrieval, fertilization, and transfer of embryos into the uterus. IVF can be done with the help of the father’s sperm and eggs from the intended mother. In this article, we will have a infographic representation of how the IVF process works.

During IVF, mature eggs are retrieved from the ovaries and fertilized with sperm in a laboratory. The resulting embryos are transferred to the uterus. A complete IVF cycle usually takes around three weeks. Occasionally, these steps can be split up, leading to a longer process.

In some cases, donor eggs and donor sperm can also be used for IVF. This is a long process and takes several months so the intended parents need to be calm and optimistic. It is also more expensive than the IUI procedure.

Stages of IVF

IVF is a long process. It consists of 5 steps

  • Pre-cycle diagnostic testing
  • Ovarian stimulation to produce multiple eggs in one phase
  • Retrieving eggs from each ovary
  • Fertilization of eggs in the laboratory through traditional insemination or ICSI
  • Embryo transfer to the uterus

What Does IVF Cost?

Natural IVF costs

As part of a natural menstrual cycle, the simplest program, and therefore the cheapest IVF program, is carried out. This means that a woman is not encouraged to produce more than one egg in a period of time for the body. This type of IVF solution can be obtained if a woman has enough healthy eggs or if hormone stimulation is significantly contraindicated. Natural IVF prices start at $2000.

IVF using Hormonal Stimulation

The hormonal stimulation system is more expensive than the natural IVF process. It uses hormonal stimulation, which involves the production of a cycle of up to 10 eggs. This allows you to fertilize and monitor all the eggs by choosing the healthiest. You will have $3000-3500 on average for an IVF or ICSI cycle.

Cost of different stages as a percentage of the total IVF process

  • The initial consultation will cost you around 6% of the total IVF cost
  • ICSI will cost you around 28% to 40% of the basic IVF total cost
  • Hormonal drugs will cost you about 20% to 80% of the basic IVF costs. Hormonal medication depends on the following factors –
  1. How old are you
  2. The lining of the uterus
  3. Length of fertility
  • Freezing embryos can be up to 20% of the basic cost of IVF, plus approx. 10% of the basic IVF storage costs annually and between 20 and 100% of the basic IVF cost of late thawing and transmission. Embryo freezing can be included in the main costs of IVF.
  • Regulatory charges will cost you around 4 to 5% of the basic IVF costs.
