Mourning while celebrating the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade
What should have been a moment of pure celebration—the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wadethat this Sunday, January 22—has been an occasion for mourning as well as bitter reflection on what this landmark case has brought us through nearly 50 years.
Roe v. Wade established the constitutional right to abortion and, in doing so, greatly improved access to abortion nationwide. But on June 24, 2022, the US Supreme Court’s decision on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization reversed Roe v. Wade.
We will surely cry this weekend (and probably scream too), but today, in defiance of those who celebrate taking away one of our most precious rights, we choose to raise the voices of those who benefit from abortion.
Abortion is an act of self-love
I think if I could go anywhere in the world, it would be back in my own bedroom when I was 19, the day after my abortion. How I would stroke her hair, lift her chin, make her Chiquitita play until she smiled. I will bring him confetti and champagne and I will thank him.

Abortion is health care
#WhateverTheReason #MyAbortionStory I want a baby as big as breath. I have used assistive technology for 15 years. I got pregnant only to find out that my sweet Joseph was a Trisomy 13 baby. I had an abortion. I would have died emotionally if I had to carry that sweet baby to term.

Abortion is for parents
My abortion was my responsible parenting decision. I don’t want to add burden and stress to my children, especially my autistic children who need a lot of services. They need my attention. Another baby will take up my time with them. I also don’t want to add more medical debt. https://t.co/usXWzQKbDU

Abortion is freedom
I celebrate my abortion with joy because it literally allowed me to shape my own future.
For anyone reading this- your reason is the right reason, even if that means having sex with an ex and not wanting to get pregnant!

Abortion saves lives
I’m 35 today, and I want to be able to throw a party for everyone who made this happen—my mom, my therapist, my community, the nurses and midwives and OBs who delivered my son, the nurses and CNMs who provided care for my abortion, the fund that paid for it. I’m only here because of them🦋

Abortion is the future
I feel so honored to be in space with other people who have had abortions. We are the future. We should be in every room where decisions are made about our bodily autonomy.

Abortion is love
loving kindness from a KS abortion clinic: saturday, a patient came in for their abortion. their father was with them to support them. a fellow patient does not have all the funds for their abortion. dad paid
My friend who told me this story said it best: “be like this dad.”

Abortion is okay, regardless of the reason
I was not raped and I had an abortion. I am not a victim of incest and I had an abortion. I was not on birth control and I had an abortion. I was not at risk of potential health issues and I had an abortion. I HAVE A CHOICE & I HAVE AN ABORTION!#MyAbortion #FuckYourReasons #ProChoice 💙

Abortion is mental health care
I am so thankful for my abortion💜 three years later and I feel better without a child than with one.

And we can’t go back
Today, I look back on one of the most painful times of my life on the floor of the House. I shared my experience of being forced to carry my dead baby. Forbidden by law to give birth, I carried my dead child inside me for two months and almost died. We can’t go back. pic.twitter.com/emuWzQDgWX
