Pregnant mom wows ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judges… and gave birth hours before show aired

A pregnant mum auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent this season, proudly cradling her baby bump. She gave birth before her televised audition last week.

Amy Lou Smith sang Beyonce’s “Listen” for the judges while 30 weeks pregnant with a baby girl. After her incredible performance, the crowd leapt to their feet, applauding wildly as Smith tried to hold back tears. “The baby’s going, ‘Thank you, thank you!'” hosts Ant and Dec joked offstage.

“I’m thinking, your baby is probably like, really having a nice little sleep there,” said Amanda Holden, one of the judges on Britain’s Got Talent, after noticing she was covered in goosebumps. “And then he goes, ‘Oh, here it is!’”

Judge Simon Cowell joked he was worried she might give birth on stage. “That won’t happen!” he said, adding, “No, I’m sorry, it’s not happening. Come out, how many weeks pregnant are you? I was thinking, yes, we could actually have our first birth on stage. And I watch you, watch the reaction of the audience. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone so connected in all the years I’ve been doing this. I mean, that’s really incredible. And Amy, look, this is your stage. This is your moment. And whatever happens next is going to be amazing.”

What happened next was, indeed, amazing, as Smith welcomed baby Aida into the world. “Just hours before her audition aired on Saturday, she gave birth to this beautiful baby Aida!” the Britain’s Got Talent Instagram page wrote. “We wonder if little Aida remembers that she played such a beautiful part in that wonderful singing!”

In a interview using the Mirror, Smith says Aida is doing well.

“He was absolutely perfect and healthy in every single way,” she said. “I am so overwhelmed with all the love and support I have received from being on the show. I can’t put into words how much we love our perfect little girl. He completed the family. I love being a mom and am so grateful and blessed to have welcomed Aida into the world. It all felt like a dream right now and I had to pinch myself to make sure it wasn’t. We didn’t know my audition was going to air this weekend until the day before and I was already booked to play Aida – so we were in for a huge surprise! I didn’t tell anyone on the show that I was seeing him this weekend – so it was crazy! As a family we love each other so much and I am so overwhelmed by all the kindness that has come our way. My own little BGT baby!”

Smith got four “yes” votes from the judges, meaning she could advance to the competition. In the meantime, she said she’ll focus on “getting baby Aida settled into our new little life together.”
