Surrogate Testimonial: Andrea D
Meet Andrea!
Q: What led you to become a Surrogate?
I was moved to become a surrogate when I saw how easy it was for me to have my children and I saw my friends struggle. I know that something needs to be done to make even some families like mine happy with their children. It does not disappoint. Seeing their faces and the result is an eternal gift. It is bittersweet that this is my last trip. No way I feel I can retire but I am hoping that many more people will follow in my footsteps and form a forever family.
Q. Who has been the most important person supporting your journey?
I had a whole tribe through this whole process but I want to thank my case manager Didi. He went above and beyond in this whole process. I couldn’t have asked for a better person to help lead us.
Q. What made you decide to choose your Intended Parents?
Intended parents are amazing and in life things will happen that are meant to happen. We must be together in all this. They are an amazingly amazing set of parents. I am so happy they chose me.
Q. What were some of the highlights of your trip?
The highlight is waking up every day excited for what’s next. When I saw the boys it made my world! They are amazing and beautiful. I am very grateful for this experience.
Q. Do you have any advice for women interested in becoming a gestational surrogate?
Please do this. You can change the world one family at a time. it will change your whole outlook on life. Selflessness and time are what it takes.
Q. How do you feel about your experience working with Family Source Consultants?
Family Source Consultants is honestly the easiest company to work with. I have used other companies in the past but if I were to do it again I would use them all 3 times. Thanks for the facilitation and all the support
Q. What have you found to be the biggest misconception people have about surrogacy?
There are so many misconceptions out there. I never thought about them but when I explain to people that I am a surrogate, there are always so many questions. I want to make sure people understand where I’m coming from. There should be more education about this field.
Q. What do you wish other people knew about surrogacy?
I want them to know that no matter what people are going through with fertility there are options and surrogacy is an amazing option.
Q. What’s the funniest/weirdest/most common question you’ve been asked as a surrogate? How did you answer?
The first question is always How do you give a baby? I’d feel so attached. I explained that from the very beginning you knew you were preparing a gift for a family. That I want them to be as happy as I am with my children. That I love these babies and care for them but I am not attached to them. Then I explained the science behind the embryo.
Q. How has being a surrogate affected your life?
It changed my whole perspective. My kids and I love it and we combine it. I was nervous at first about how it would affect my children. They are amazing people with this kind of heart. They want others to be happy too. The fact that they understand what I want to do for another family makes me feel like I did something right in raising them. 🙂
Q. Was this pregnancy different than your other pregnancies? If so, how?
Yes! Twins are really different. It was much harder on my body. I am not sure knowing what I do now I would ever do twins again but I don’t regret bringing these boys here!
Q. How did you prepare yourself for separation from the baby after birth?
I have no problem with it. I find that knowing and understanding family makes you feel like you are doing the right thing.
Q. What do you want someone thinking about working with a surrogate to know?
Always be patient and kind. I think a lot of people don’t see the side of the alternative where it takes a lot of time away from their family and work responsibilities as well as how it affects their body and health.
Q. Is there anything else you would like to share with us about your experience as a Substitute?
I’m so happy for Svet and Jenny!
