The NBA Models for Parents Everywhere

The last one I read CBS sports is, well, never.

But OMG, there are so many proud mamas out there today? How many NBA and WNBA , MLB and more players are there? So many proud mamas.

My heart breaks for the brave young men who are doing the right thing, coming together and setting boundaries in a way that every parent everywhere should stop and take notice of. They said “No. That’s unacceptable behavior.” and a whole lotta white folks are suddenly paying attention in a different way. They become true to themselves, taking responsibility for their own well-being and the well-being of their friends and family. That’s how trust is built.

Colin Kapernick took a knee four years ago!!!! Four years since he rpolite taken astan by kneeling and humiliated and blamed and more!!

Here is hope. Change takes time, but change happens. Apparently it takes a lot of time because a lot of black people have been shot in the back in the last four years. Stop. Thank you NBA., WNBA, Soccer League and everyone else who has a voice that when it goes up, it goes up.

Race in America. This is something. I have cried too much in the past four years. I believe we need dramatic change in this country and it needs to include rseparations. If we can pay reparations to the Japanese we interned in WWII and the

When I read this, I cried again. No parent, no parent ever, should fear that their children will be pursued. Yes. Chasing.

“Troy Vincent, the NFL’s head of football operations and the highest-ranking Black person in the league office, spoke tearfully on ESPN Radio about his fears for his three sons and his support for the athletes who sat out the games.

‘I have a 22-year-old and a 20-year-old and a 15-year-old that I am trying to prevent from hunting, and their moment that is easy to teach and I trust in my Lord, trust in him, ” said Vincent. “I’m just — I’m proud of what men and women are doing.”

We too. Proud. And THANKFUL.

I gave birth to two white children who identified at birth as male, and I did my best to raise them anti-racist. One of them graduated this year, and wrote a paper, in Dec 2019 titled Liberated Children, Liberated Futures: Towards Critical and Anti-Oppressive Pedagogies in Early Childhood Educationvolunteers weekly at a tenant rights organization, Casa Justabegan doing volunteer work for a white anti-racist organization, SF Catalyst, when he was 19, and committed to changing the world. It is not always an easy way to choose to live a life, and I support them as much as I can, and sometimes the state gives things that are not easy. One is less involved on a political level, but they live with their boyfriend and best friend, who are both POC and have participated in the past few months. I wouldn’t be a proud mother if I tried.

As a small business owner in a pandemic, I can despair right now. I choose hope. Thank you to all the brave souls who speak out against injustice, from LeBron James to my kids, from all the people across the US who keep showing up and don’t stop all athletes. Thank you to everyone who speaks and is kind and caring.
