What is Sunrise Doula Support? — From The Start, Postpartum Doula

The Army did a lot to condition me to be a morning person. Waking up before sunrise is my daily routine, even now. Just something about the quite, the calm, the change in the sky, the coffee, the wonder of the coming day, I just love it! Oh, and it’s the closest time of day for breakfast – absolutely THE BEST meal of the day! The smell of bacon, or buttered, toasted English muffins…yum.

So, when this opportunity came to pair some of my favorite things, I couldn’t resist! And that is the story of the birth of my Sunrise Doula Support service!

Today, an example of what Sunrise Doula Support can look like and how to make this dream a reality for your family!

You called and we met before the first sunrise visit. I have also visited your house once so I am familiar with the layout, where the baby sleeps, where the parents are located, where the other children sleep, etc. Fast forward to my first visit to Sunrise Support! You gave me a key or code to get into your home so I don’t have to wake anyone up to get in. You sent me a text containing the start time of the baby’s last feed and any nappy change details. I come in, check out any other notes you’ve left for me, and get to work! I’m probably doing laundry, washing pump parts or bottles, tidying up the kitchen, restocking any diaper bags or changing tables, and starting to make breakfast, all while tending to baby’s every move! If you are a breastfeeding family, I bring baby to you when it’s time to feed, then take baby to go back to sleep. I continued to take care of the baby while finishing the chores and having breakfast. Possibly another feeding is happening while I’m there then in the mid-morning hours, then you’re up for the day between 8am and 10am, with a hot drink and fresh breakfast waiting for you! I pass on any notes and observations from the morning and then we’re all on our way for the day!
