What’s a Wellness Visit? | Maine Family Planning

October 22, 2019

Birth Control, Health Care

Many patients know to call us at Maine Family Planning when there’s a problem — you have uncomfortable symptoms, you missed your period, you had unprotected sex. (Our number is 207-922-3222 and we can often offer same-day appointments.)

But did you know that you can call us when everything is in order — and we can help you keep it that way?

Call us or go online to book your Annual Wellness Visit at one of MFP’s 18 clinics across the state. During a wellness visit, you’ll meet with one of our expert nurse practitioners (NPs) to review your overall health and reproductive plans, identify risks, and learn how to stay healthy.

What Happens at a Wellness Visit?

During your wellness visit, which usually lasts about 30 minutes, your NP will talk to you about:

  • your current health
  • your family’s health history
  • previous illnesses and operations
  • recommended screenings such as pap tests and mammograms
  • your reproductive plans
  • your birth control options
  • preconception planning
  • risks you may have for certain conditions
  • how to maintain a healthy lifestyle

We offer non-judgmental, affordable and confidential care to all. Maine Family Planning clinics use many types of insurance and MaineCare. If a service is not covered by your insurance, or you do not have insurance, our sliding fee scale is used to lower your cost.

An Annual Wellness Visit is a great way to have peace of mind about your health. And, if you don’t have a primary care provider, MFP wellness visits allow you to check in with a medical professional — in the same place you go to get your birth control!
