You Helped Remind Evelyn of Her Faith
…and helped him choose life!
“Oh, no… This isn’t happening,” said Evelyn*, staring at the plus symbol on the pregnancy test in her hands.
He paced back and forth, bare feet pounding the tile floor as the reality sunk in. She didn’t plan to get pregnant in college. Midterms have been more stressful than she expected, and Mike* is there for her when she needs to relax…and that’s when things spiral out of control.
He ran his fingers through his hair, taking a deep breath. Just a junior, his grades put him on track to graduate with honors. Having a baby can threaten her plans for graduation and career.
He believes in God—he was raised Baptist—and he feels that his walk with God has really grown this past year. She knew God loved her and wanted what was best for her, but this seemed like too much to handle. He feels that he is not ready to be responsible for other people.
She remembers hearing about the Pregnancy Decision Line from the church she attends. He heard it was a good place to get some answers about unplanned pregnancy, so he decided to give them a call.
The conversation with the hotline coach was marked by tears, encouragement, and—surprisingly—even laughter. The coach mentioned that she knows other mothers who have graduated with children and also maintained a career. He mentioned that Care Net’s own President and CEO, Roland Warren, and his wife, Yvette, were in his shoes. Not only did Yvette finish school, but she fulfilled her dream of becoming a doctor after getting married and having a second child.
But then the Life Coach said something that struck him: “Sometimes God answers our prayers in ways we don’t understand at the time, but His ways are always good.” Evelyn hung up still not knowing what to do, but she felt more and more that her baby was part of God’s plans for her.
According to a Care Net survey conducted in 2018, two out of five mothers who have had an abortion admit that they attended church regularly at the time of their abortion. This means that someone sitting in the seat next to you on Sunday may be planning to go to the abortion clinic on Monday.
But, thanks to you, their minds are changing because you have shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ through our hotline and they have received compassion, hope, and help through our network of life-affirming pregnancy centers. More than that, churches like yours are (or can be) a place they can go, to become disciples for Life.
