24 Fun St. Patrick’s Day Baby Photo Shoot Ideas You Can Do at Home
As a new parent, I rarely resist the opportunity to turn any occasion into an impromptu photo shoot. Easter, Valentine’s Day, Christmas – no holiday is safe from me dressing my baby boy in an adorable outfit with a matching backdrop, and looking back, I’m so glad I did.
Whether you opt for professional photos or prefer the DIY photoshoot route, St Patrick’s Day is right around the corner, which means it’s time to bust out the photo props and snap some great photos of your cute little leprechaun!
1. Magic Milestone
If you love the idea of monthly milestone photos, March is the perfect time to pull out a letterboard and a pot of gold to remind everyone how rich your baby is.
2. Cute Clover
Who said you need a four-leaf clover to be the luckiest parent around? The Dollar Store is a great place to find fun props like gold coins, cute headbands, and clovers to dress up any backdrop for your baby’s photoshoot.
3. So One-derful!
Celebrate your baby’s first birthday in leprechaun style with cute little outfits from websites like Etsy and Amazon, or DIY your own with inspiration from Pinterest.
4. Lucky Cake Smash
The only thing better than a first birthday cake smash is when it falls on the luckiest day of the year! Grab a white onesie and friend someone with a Cricut to customize your birthday outfit (or find something cute online). Add some balloons and grab that camera.
5. Lucky Boy
If you’re someone who plans to do monthly baby photoshoots, a letterboard can be your best friend. Adding a cute custom message will help you keep track of the date and occasion when you look back over the years (in case the leprechaun hat didn’t give it away). 6. Attractive Bow
There’s something about an oversized headpiece for newborn photos that’s impossible to resist. When you add your St. Patrick’s day decor, this picture is *chef’s kiss*.
7. Cereal Sink
Fill your sink or baby bath tub with Lucky Charms and you have breakfast and your photoshoot is covered.
8. Lucky Charm Rainbow
Don’t have the materials to make a ROYGBIV rainbow for your backdrop? No problem. Think outside the (cereal) box and make your rainbow from Lucky Charms!
9. Charms & Toes
No baby photoshoot is complete without a shot of their little toes. Make sure you capture your baby’s cuteness from every angle!
10. Under the Rainbow
Surprise! It turns out that sometimes there is a treasure both end of the rainbow Using fabric, tulle, or plastic tablecloths are all creative ways to DIY the perfect rainbow arch.
11. Rainbow Gold
If you’ve got a kicking rainbow blanket, spread it out, dress your baby in their leprechaun best, sprinkle some chocolate coins around them, and you’ll have a sweet photo op faster than you can say “One Shamrock Iling, please.”
12. Pot o’ Gold
If you’re not afraid to put in a little extra time in the props department, grab your glue gun and some gold coins and get gluing. See if you can grab a leftover pot from Halloween (or try your luck on Amazon) and you’ve got yourself the perfect Pot ‘O Gold!
13. Lucky Star
The great thing about St. Patrick’s Day photos. Patrick you can take almost any green outfit from your baby’s closet, and it will complement your theme. That, combined with a simple white backdrop and a few Lucky letter balloons, spells a photo shoot winner.
14. Green and Gold
A tried and true way to keep a baby happy until you make them smile is to surround them with balloons. It’s an added bonus that it makes for a super cute photo op!
15. Three Times the Charm
Aim for super cute with a sweet sibling photo complete with photo booth props from places like Target, the Dollar Store, or Amazon. If you can get all three kiddos to look into your lens and smile, you should get yourself a lottery ticket.
16. I Make My Own Luck
If your place is warm enough, try setting up your photo shoot outside. You never know when you might find a sneaky leprechaun poking around in your wishing well!
17. Lucky Clover
Leprechaun-green might not be your favorite shade, and that’s okay. More neutral tones, such as sage green, make for a beautiful picture, especially when paired with some clover in the same color.
18. Top O’ The Mornin’
I’m not sure if there’s anything on the planet cuter than a baby in a leprechaun beard, so if you’re on the fence about ordering a full-on leprechaun getup, let this be your cue to go for it.
19. Shamrock without a shirt
I don’t know what it is about babies, but it seems like the less clothes they have, the happier they are. If that sounds like your little one, throw on some shiny shamrocks, grab a green bow and call it a day – you’ll probably get some of the best smiles this way!
20. Leprechaun Hat
Candid photos often turn out to be some of the best from any photo shoot batch. Give your baby plenty of props to play with (like this giant leprechaun hat), and get ready to capture whatever comes next.
21. Cup of tea
St. Patrick’s Day tea party, anyone? Balloon banners are relatively easy to make yourself. Instructions can be found with a quick Google search, and materials are widely available and relatively inexpensive. Set out some green treats, invite your tea party guests to wear their favorite shades of green and get ready for some adorable candid shots.
22. Bring the Bowtie
No bowtie too big, no baby too small! Baby photos are always fun to look at, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get in the picture every now and then! Try some matching clothes or accessories to pull the whole thing together (and show off how tiny your baby is compared to you!)
23. Green and Gold Bling
One day, they’ll probably dig through your jewelry box, but for now, let your toddler loose on all the cheap green beads and baubles you can find.
24. Who is Lucky?
Green clothes? Check. How cute is the statement onesie? Check. Gold coins? Check. Clover? Check. Adorable baby? Make sure again.
What I Need For DIY St. Patrick’s Day-Themed Photo Shoot?
Honestly, if you have a baby, a camera, and something green, your St. Patrick is good to do. Having backdrop props or imagery like rainbows, gold coins, clovers, balloons, and leprechaun gear like hats, shoes, and beards can really help you get the themed look you want. Put a letter board with a unique quote and you’re good to go!
You will likely get the best photos from your babies and toddlers if they have eaten recently, not close to bedtime, there are no major distractions, and the room is at a comfortable temperature (especially for babies in onesies or diapers). Good luck, and don’t forget – I’d love to see the results in the comments!
