My Experience with Nectar Classic Full and Premier Full
Nectar mattresses is a good mattress-in-a-box option. What’s more convenient than ordering a mattress online and having it delivered to your door days later? No delivery on schedule. No need to mess with hauling the mattress home on top of our car. Convenience is a win, but what are we? Really as about them they are CertiPUR, meaning they have without flame retardants and chemicals.
Since we got these mattresses for our kids, the CertiPUR certification made a big difference. Not all big name brands have this certification, and for us, it made all the difference.
What’s the deal with CertiPUR?
The CertiPUR-US program is a non-profit organization which focuses on foam products. Specifically, this program zeroes in on flexible polyurethane foam used in bedding and upholstered furniture. CertiPUR certification is awarded to products manufactured with low emissions, high performance, and durability.
Simply put, when a product earns CertiPUR certification, it means that the foam used in the mattress meets (or exceeds) CertiPUR-US’ strict standards for emissions, performance, and durability. A mattress with CertiPUR certification means:
- It is made without ozone depleters
- It is free from flame retardants such as PBDEs, TDCPP or TCEP (“Tris”)
What are our children saying?
Our kids love these mattresses! While I’m not sure we notice a huge difference between the Nectar Classic and the Nectar Premier, the number one takeaway is that our kids are happy, sleeping well, and very comfortable at night.
Is the Nectar Mattress Safe for Children?
I know what you’re thinking: are memory foam mattresses Really safe? The answer: it depends.
Not all foam mattresses are safe for children, but the Nectar mattress is not your average foam mattress. They have been awarded CertiPUR-US certification, and note that the CertiPUR-US program requires foam mattresses to be manufactured with very low levels of substances in the foam that may be harmful to human health and/or the environment.
Are Memory Foam Mattresses Good for Children?
In the not so distant past, most people slept on mattresses with coils. These coils (steel springs) are not always the most comfortable, and they are notorious for causing back pain, slipped discs, and even nerve damage as the coils begin to wear out. the tension over the years. Foam mattresses, however, are becoming more popular, and the reason is simple: foam mattresses are delightfully comfortable.
But is that the right solution for children? Memory foam can be very comfortable for children. These mattresses support your child’s spinal alignment and offer excellent pressure relief thanks to their multiple layers:
- A stitched, breathable cover
- A 3-inch layer of gel-infused foam layer to keep your child comfortable (no more hot nights on non-breathable foam mattresses!)
- A 2-inch layer of dynamic adjustment foam to provide proper spinal alignment
- A 7-inch base layer to support the other layers
Another reason to try memory foam for your children: they have very little transfer of movement, which is great for any child who sleeps with a sibling or yours. Moving motion refers to how much (or little) the mattress will move, shake, or bounce when someone else tosses and turns. Low motion transfer = better sleep for all parties involved!
So is the Nectar memory foam mattress good for kids? Yes! Memory foam mattresses are comfortable, and Nectar mattresses do not disappoint. They are comfortable from a spinal alignment point-of-view, but they are also comfortable from a temperature regulation point-of-view. Add the CertiPUR certification, and we’re sold!
What Mattress Firmness is Best for a Child?
When you were shopping for a crib mattress, you probably realized right away that babies need firm sleep surfaces to help prevent SIDS. But is that true for all children? As it turns out, an overly sticky mattress isn’t good for anyone, including kids. Mattresses that are too soft do not support your spine the way it needs to be supported.
The best stability for children is medium-firm. Medium-firm supports proper spinal alignment, and it accommodates sleepers in all positions. No matter what position your child prefers, adaptive foam relieves pressure on pressure points ie, shoulders, hips, and legs.
Additionally, since children can easily overheat at night, a good mattress should be medium-firm. and features cooling properties to help stabilize your child’s body temperature.
Are Nectar Mattresses Off-Gas?
Off-gassing is a hot topic when it comes to upholstered items, and this includes mattresses, new furniture, and new carpet. So what is off-gassing and the Nectar mattresses off-gas? Off-gassing occurs when new, manufactured items (which include furniture, carpet, wall paint, and more) release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other chemicals into the air. Off-gassing causes a musty smell after you paint or after you open your mattress-in-a-box.
Like low VOC paint, mattresses with CertiPUR certification off-gas less than their non-certified counterparts.
New memory foam mattress it takes time to off-gas, but these mattresses require less time than non-certified mattresses. Here are some tips for off-gassing:
- Turn your mattress in an empty room and open all the windows
- Let the mattress stay in this room for 1-3 days until the smell disappears (Nectar says it’s ready within 24 hoursbut you can let it air out a bit if you like.)
- Do not put a mattress cover or sheets on the mattress until off-gassing is complete
Tip: You can also run an air purifier during this process. (I’ll be honest; we did this process because I noticed there was no smell.)
Is Nectar an Organic Mattress?
Nectar mattress are eco-friendly, and they also feature organic ingredients. The cotton used for Nectar mattresses is ethically sourced using Fair Trade standards, handpicked, filled, and even dyed with low-impact dyes. The cotton (think: breathable quilted cover?) is made from the finest Fair Trade & GOTS certified non-GMO organic cotton.
What does GOTS mean? (No no Game of Thrones!) GOTS stands for The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and is recognized as the world’s leading processing standard for textiles — such as fabric, yarn, etc. — made of organic fibers. The independent certification including processing standards, ecological standards, and social standards as well.
Do Nectar Mattresses Contain Formaldehyde?
You don’t have to look very far to find a foam mattress with formaldehyde or toxic flame retardants, but luckily, Nectar doesn’t fall into that category — and you can thank CertiPUR-US for that. Remember, any product with CertiPUR certification means it does not contain any of the following:
- PBDEs or flame retardants
- Heavy steel
- Formaldehyde
- Ozone depleters
- Phthalates.
It also has low emissions of VOCs for the best indoor air quality.
Are Nectar Mattresses Healthy?
