Hospital Birth with PPD/PPA and Appendicitis Followed by Two Homebirths and Easier Postpartums

Jenny quickly became pregnant with her first baby in 2018 and had after a smooth hospital induction with an epidural, but a prolonged pushing phase due to the position of the baby. Postpartum is marked by significant nursing issues, which trigger post partum depression and anxiety. Then, at 6 weeks postpartum she woke up with abdominal pain that turned into appendicitis and led to emergency surgery, further complicating the postpartum recovery.
Jenny had two successful home births. The postpartum experience after her second birth was more pronounced with a baby who nursed very well, but Jenny felt that she was rushing through the fourth trimester to “finish” and did not allow herself to enjoy it. . Her third baby was born just a few weeks ago but it’s been the smoothest transition yet despite having a baby with tongue and lip ties. Jenny allowed herself to fully enjoy having a newborn and was the most emotionally healthy she had ever been.
