Interview with Alecia Jones New Beginnings Center of Hope
Alecia’s passion to reach underserved communities drove her to become a nurse. While attending a conference, he met the Executive Director (ED) of a Care Net Pregnancy Center from Miami, FL. This ED challenged Jones, “I am asked to find abortion statistics for New York state. I have been a nurse for over 20 years and I don’t know the abortion statistics for my state,” Jones reminded.
New Beginnings Center of Hope offers practical support and resources to women and men in Queens and the surrounding areas. Alecia’s dedication to serving the pregnancy center ministry, even in a state that is hostile to life-affirming work, has taught her many things.
Alecia also serves as a Center Services Specialist with Care Net, where she has the opportunity to encourage and equip fellow pregnancy center leaders. She shares with new center directors, “I learned tenacity, perseverance, I learned what it takes… and those are the things that new directors should know, it doesn’t happen overnight. You have to work hard but listen, at the end of the day, the harvest is life, the harvest is peace, and there is change at the end.”
Although abortion is legal in New York, it is not uncommon. 63,142 children’s lives were ended in their mothers’ wombs in 2020.
She recognizes the importance of dispelling the misinformation that surrounds pregnancy centers, and emphasizes the importance of communicating the heart behind their work – the Pro Abundant Life movement that strengthens families.
As Roland and Alecia discussed in the interview, New York is one of the states with the highest number of abortions, with 63,142 lives were lost to abortion in 2020 alone. This statistic is shocking, and underscores the importance of centers like New Beginnings Center of Hope.
The work that pregnancy centers do is often misunderstood and misrepresented. Alecia encourages pregnancy center leaders to stay focused on their mission, to provide hope, support, and resources to women and men facing unplanned pregnancies. These centers offer practical support such as free pregnancy tests, counseling, and material resources such as diapers and formula. They also offer post-abortion counseling and support to women who have had an abortion.
Alecia Jones is an example of a true ministry leader at the pregnancy center. Her passion for serving underserved communities, her resilience in the face of opposition, and her commitment to the Pro Abundant Life movement are inspiring. The work done by pregnancy centers like New Beginnings Center of Hope is important, and it is important to continue to support and promote these centers, as they help build stronger, healthier communities and promote dignity of all human life.
