Next week, Amazon holds Prime Big Deal Days, a two-day shopping event that gives Amazon Prime members the chance to save money on everyday essentials and big-ticket items, while also getting ahead of the holiday shopping. But there’s another money-saving event just around the corner. (And no, we’re not talking about Target Circle Week and Walmart Holiday Kickoff, which are happening this week and next week, respectively). Black Friday, the post-Thanksgiving sale synonymous with deep discounts, will be here before you know it.
While sales like these are welcome events for parents-to-be and caregivers looking to reduce the high costs of raising a child, they can also be overwhelming. With so many deals available, it’s hard to know which ones really stand out and allow you to stretch your dollar the farthest.

We’ve reviewed past Black Friday sales and reviewed offers from last year’s Prime Day (known as the Prime Early Access Sale), determining which pregnancy and baby items you should buy during Prime Big Deal Days and which ones you should wait until Black Friday to buy .

Toys
One of the main missions of Prime Big Deal Days is to help people get ahead (and, of course, save) on their holiday shopping. For parents, that means getting the most awesome toys at a fraction of the cost. Last year, Fisher-Price, Melissa and Doug and Jump Frog offers up to 50 percent off beloved baby and toddler toys. While the deals won’t apply to every item in the brands’ catalog, you’re sure to find some hot-ticket toys to gift.
Bottles
Last year, brands wanted Dr. Brown, Comotomo, NOK and Tommee Tippee is a 20 to 30 percent discount during the two-day shopping event. Since many parents recommend trying several bottles before settling on “the one,” this is a great opportunity to buy several brands without worrying about wasting money. Or, if your baby is not very particular, this is a good opportunity to stock up. For parents of young children, there are probably some sippy cups for sale.
High chairs
If you’ve been putting off buying a high chair until baby is ready for solids, Prime Big Deal Days might be the time to act. Last year, High quality high chairs by Graco are marked down 30 percent during the fall sale. Friday Baby has built a fandom by creating genius products that help in embarrassing situations, such as baby boogers and rough cradle cap. In 2022, many of these items are 30 percent off during the Prime Early Access Sale. Whether you’re looking for a way to remove baby mucus or a humidifier that doubles as a night light, you can stock up on baby care essentials without breaking the bank.

Frida Mom kits
Why should baby get all the TLC? Some of Frida Mom’s life-saving items (including the Mom Must-Have Award-winning postpartum recovery kit) were 30 percent off during last year’s Prime Day sale. These mom care kits make great gifts, so buy one for yourself and a few to keep.

Last year, parents refilled their changing tables for less thanks to Prime Day deals on diapers, wipes and butt paste. WaterWipesis 35 percent off, while Pampers, Honest Company and Babyganics offers up to 40 percent off diapers. If you can swing it, Christine Mattheis, What to Expect’s Group VP, Content & Brand Solutions, suggests buying at least one box each of sizes 1 through 3 if you’re pregnant or have a newborn; if your baby is older, buy at least one box of whatever size they are now, plus one box of the following two sizes. By doing this, you save a lot of money on something you’re guaranteed to need eventually.

A portable play yard is not necessary, but if you can get a Graco on sale, why not buy it? Through 2022, select Graco pack ‘n plays are discounted up to 40 percent. This includes some of the more tricked out models, such as Graco Pack ‘n Play Travel Domewith bassinet and changing table attachment.

Pregnancy and baby gear you should wait to buy during Black Friday sales
Diaper bags
If history is any indicator, diaper bags are even more discounted on Black Friday. And since Black Friday is a shopping event for all retailers, you’ll have more options and a better chance of finding the bag you really want to sell. Last year, for example, brands like Skip Hop and JuJuBe offered up to 25 percent off bags purchased on their sites. Meanwhile, popular diaper bags are 30 percent off at Nordstrom.

Strollers
You probably have some time before you really need a stroller, so why not wait to get what you want for less money. While some strollers will be marked down during Prime Big Deal Days, most brands are holding off until Black Friday. And you can find them at a number of retailers. Last Black Friday, Amazon offered up to 30 percent off select strollers Graco, Maxi-Cosi and Baby Joggerjust to name a few.

As with strollers, you may want to wait a little longer before buying a car seat. And doing so can pay off, as car seats were up to 34 percent off during last Black Friday sales. Amazon has had the biggest selection in the past, with deals on brands like Graco, Chico and Evenflo.

The crib must be purchased for babies. It is also an expensive one. While there will be some discounted cribs available on Prime Big Deal Days, steeper discounts are likely to be available on Black Friday. In the past, retailers like Walmart and Wayfair have cut crib prices by up to 30 percent. And your dollar will go even further if you buy one of the many convertible cribs for sale. These types of cribs grow with your child, turning into a toddler bed, day bed or full-sized bed when the time is right.
