In the last decade, the Danish word “hygge” (pronounced hooga) has become popular around the world. It is added to Oxford English Dictionary, Merriam-Webster’s Dictionaryand even the official Scrabble Dictionary. But what does this mean? Hygge has no equivalent in English as it is a word rather than a concept, representing a warm fuzzy feeling of coziness, comfort, and calm. Imagine a room lit by warm twinkling lights, candles, and a fireplace; a mug of hot cider with a cinnamon stick; fuzzy socks, an oversized cardigan, and a plush throw blanket; reading a good book while cuddling next to the person you love.
