If your child is about to start solids, you’re probably looking for a high chair. As a mom who makes a living testing and reviewing baby products, I highly recommend the Stokke Tripp Trapp High Chair. My daughter has been using this high chair for over a year, and I have found it to be a worthwhile investment. While this chair is normally a splurge, it’s 25 percent off during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, saving you $100. (You can also save on other luxury baby gear like the Uppababy Vista V2 travel system and Nuna Rava car seat in this annual sale.)

I didn’t buy a high chair before my daughter was born. After all, it’s a big ticket item that you don’t need until your child is ready to start solids, usually around 6 months according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. As she approached the 5-month mark, I started researching high chairs to see which ones would check my many boxes. I want a high chair that’s safe, of course, but I also want one that’s easy to clean, can be pushed onto the table and isn’t an eyesore. Strokke Tripp Trapp met my criteria, and then some.

To begin with, there is the sleek silhouette; measuring 19.29 x 18.11 x 31.1 inches, it takes up about as much space as a standard dining chair. The silhouette also provides proper side and back support, which not only helps your child learn to sit but also makes them more comfortable. My daughter was — and still is — resistant to sitting. So I thought he would pick a fight when we put him in a high chair. To my surprise, he took it to the well of Tripp Trapp. Yes, he got angry when we first put him in the chair, but the screaming subsided after a few minutes; probably because he has a lot of leg room and is positioned in a way that feels good.

The design also makes the Stokke high chair one of the more attractive high chairs on the market. It’s available in over 16 colors, so you’ll have no trouble finding a color that fits your aesthetic. I knew I wanted my daughter to eat at the table with us, so I was thrilled to be able to purchase a high chair that would blend seamlessly with our dining set. But when we transitioned from purees to actual food, I set up an attached tray to make it easier for him to pick up and try new foods. Plus, it made cleaning easier for me; I would rather remove and wipe a plastic tray than clean my tablecloth.

For me, however, Tripp Trapp’s biggest selling point is its longevity. Most high chairs become useless after two years, which is usually when children can sit independently in a chair. But Tripp Trapp can be used well into adulthood. Yes, what you read is correct. The seat can hold up to 242 pounds, while the seat and footrest can be reconfigured into several seating positions. And it’s easy to do. Although we are still a year or two away from my daughter being ready for a “big girl” seat, we have adjusted the footrest a few times to accommodate her constant height changes.

It’s easy to look down on a nearly $400 high chair, but when you consider the durability, design and longevity of the Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair, it’s really a good deal (and if you don’t believe me, check out our full Stokke Tripp Trapp Test). And if you take advantage of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, it’s a real steal at $300. It should also be noted that the Stokke Tripp Trapp rarely goes on sale. So even if you are pregnant or your child is just a few months away from starting solids, you should take advantage of the sale and get the Stokke Tripp Trapp for a fraction of the price. You’ll be glad you did.
