Babysitting Rate Increases Show Signs of Slowing

If you feel like you’re getting more money for childcare, you’re not alone. In 2021 and 2022, there were step climbing hourly child care rates. Notable and 11 percent increase in 2021 and 9.7 percent increase in 2022. But rising prices have light at the end of the tunnel for parents.

A new 2024 study by UrbanSitter, analyzed more than fifteen thousand childcare and childcare jobs, providing insights into the dynamics of childcare costs. Over the past year, average child care rates in the US have risen 4.5 percent, slightly outstripping inflation at 3.4 percent, but a marked drop from last year’s increases. If you’re in the market for a sitter in 2024, hourly rates range from $16 to $26, with the national average at $23.61 an hour.
