Decorating for a kids’ Halloween party means finding the sweet spot between fun and scary. A good example of this is my recent fireplace makeover. I designed this project with kids in mind, aiming to make it both entertaining and just the right amount of scary.
I decided to make the mantle the star of my Halloween decor. I found it scary gas which also illuminates to cover the mantle. Very easy and adds a fun dimension of horror without going too crazy. I like it because it’s pre-lit so it’s super easy to just plug it in and enjoy!
To keep the mantle decoration simple and avoid any need for watering, I filled the planters pumpkins. It not only added a vibrant pop of color but also brought a festive autumn touch to the design. To heighten the Halloween theme, I piled more pumpkins on top of the mantle, creating an awesome mountain of miniature jack-o’-lanterns.
Then, I focused on the firepit. What’s a Halloween party without a cozy fire to gather around? I discovered these super cool ones skull-shaped fire notes. When lit, they create the illusion of fire coming out of their eyes and mouth – a definite wow-factor for children.
For an added twist, I included a golden skeleton prop as a pretend party guest. She brings a playful element to the decor and may even wear a witch hat on the actual day of the party. I’m also thinking of having him hold a bowl of treats or something else party related – I haven’t decided on that yet.
I added a few more elements like lanterns and an extra skull to finish the scene. And, to give some life to the display, I included a couple of mothers. Since I like to limit watering (honestly, I’m not the best with plants), I figured two would be correct.
Once the Halloween party is over, I plan to change the decor. But for now, this setup is the perfect backdrop for a fun and spooky kids Halloween party.
