New Study Reveals Top 10 Disney Inspired Baby Names
Popular baby names inspired by movies, books and TV are old hat. Choosing a baby name for your precious little one can be a long and difficult process. Your mother, your neighbor, your best friend and basically anyone you share your pregnancy announcement with will have their own opinions on what to name your baby.
Sometimes, all it takes is a Disney movie to set aside all the lists and inspire your princess baby. According to a new study, Disney movies have inspired MANY baby names. With the modern live-action adaptation of “The Little Mermaid” on everyone’s mind, I’m sure you’re wondering how many Ariels there are. The number may surprise you.
Leading the charge is the name Jasmine from the beloved, “Aladdin.” Between the years 2000 to 2021, there were more than 100,000 babies named after the princess in blue. Aurora is next in line with more than 50,000 babies named after the “Sleeping Beauty” princess. Makes you wonder if any of these babies sleep as soundly as she does!
Princess Ariel-inspired baby names total more than 48,000. The recent release featuring the beautiful Halle Bailey is sure to inspire even more. For all the expectant parents who will watch the movie, it won’t be a surprise when your child comes home from school in a few years and tells you that their friend’s name is Ariel.
Between the three of them, the top three spots belong to Disney’s most popular princesses, Jasmine, Aurora and Ariel have inspired over 200,000 baby names over the past two decades. In fifth place is Esmerelda from “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” with more than 25,000 babies named after her. Tiana made a list too! The princess from “The Princess and the Frog” has inspired more than 13,000 baby names.
Other names in the top 10 include, Maximus from the movie, “Gladiator,” Ace from the movie, “Ace Ventura” and, surprisingly, Regina from the movie, “Mean Girls.” Click here for the full list of studies and other findings.
