Our Word, One Pose, for 2021.

Well, naturally, Mom’s the word- every year😍

For 2021, CELEBRATE 🎉our choice.

Really? After 2020? As a small retail brick and mortar business? celebrate?

Yes. Really. 2020 humbled us, because it had millions of other small fashion retailers, restaurants and more, AND it did for us what it has done for so many people, it gave us a new perspective . So, we choose to CELEBRATE what we have, not worry and fear for an uncertain and unknown future. We went there way back in April and May. This is clearly not good. 😅

So, what are you celebrating today?

Vision This is the gift of 2020 that we carry into 2021!

Here are some of the things we celebrate:

  • Our wonderful clients!!
  • Our kids (because, naturally and thankfully, and, full disclosure, they don’t live at home which probably makes it easier)
  • The three of us left here at Mom’s the Word, and everyone who was part of the team pre-covid, most of them we hear from on a semi-regular basis.
  • Babies and other small people.
  • Essential workers—everyone from grocery store clerks to doctors. And to the firemen, particularly those who rushed to our house on the 26th. (And aside from having to buy a new stove, we’re fine.)
  • Teachers
  • The California Coast
  • Our parents
  • Our small biz designers, and our bigger biz designers too
  • Parents everywhere.
  • Science and Medicine
  • 2020, because we got through it and it felt like it was worth celebrating
  • Sunset
  • sunrise
  • Moon is rising
  • Ocean

The list goes on and on and on and on and on and on. Right now as I type? Dirty Chai.

I admit that these emojis are probably overused in 2020: 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼. I have a mom friend with little kids text me asking me if it’s possible to remove the emojis because they’re being used so much 🤬🤯.

Here’s my hope for 2021, no emoji, but a pose. Remember Amy Cuddy and Wonder Woman pose in 2012? This is our pose for 2021. It too empowers.

It helped me survive 2020, which is no small feat. (I won’t share the devastation detail by detail that small businesses have gone through in 2020, but, maybe you feel it. If you know this personally, we feel for you, we hope you are okay, in search of perspective.)

If this celebratory pose can help a small business mom get by, it’s worth a shot, right?

Look at the man in the cartoon above, and imitate:

Arms outstretched. Head back. Ahhhhhhhhh

Be thankful, even if it’s just for heaven, or heck, your arms!

You can do it anywhere (Well, okay, you need a little room to spread your arms.) It is only by practicing this pose that I can let go of what is really important in life ; love, connection, beauty. (And lucky me, for the first time in 24 years I closed up shop for a few days and headed to the coast with my older son, but to be honest, I wasn’t always in such a great place!)

Go ahead, give it a try. Recommended at least twice a day. Tell us how it goes.

Stay strong. nay on Don’t forget to CELEBRATE the little things.
