Alysia is a first-time gestational surrogate who gave birth to a baby girl for a family in October 2023.
Q: What led you to become a Surrogate?
I read and researched surrogacy in high school. I thought the stories were inspirational. When I had my own children, and a loving pregnancy, I realized how fulfilling and complete my husband and I felt having a family of our own. I thought more about surrogacy and helping to create families. I knew then that if I could help another family have a baby, nothing could be more rewarding.
Q. Who has been the most important person supporting your journey?
My spouse. He was amazing throughout my journey. He is patient and compassionate no matter the stage.
Q. What made you decide to choose your Intended Parents?
He is very sweet and genuine. He had waited years to find and match a successor. I loved the look in his eyes when we talked about how much he wanted a child. It is also important for both of us to continue to communicate in the future.
Q. What were some of the highlights of your trip?
Hearing the first heartbeat and getting that confirmation was the first big highlight for me. I remember crying while looking at the screen.
What followed was when the intended parents came to visit. He asked to touch my stomach and smiled very brightly.
Another highlight is all the love, check-ins, and updates I get/give through Didi.
The best highlight is after giving birth. When he came out, there was a clear love that radiated from the intended parent. You can see in his eyes how much he loves her.
Q. Do you have any advice for women interested in becoming a gestational surrogate?
It can start slowly with medications, and appointments, but once the pregnancy begins, it passes very quickly. Having a supportive person is also very important. The journey is very rewarding, but also emotional.
Q. How do you feel about your experience working with Family Source Consultants?

Q. What have you found to be the biggest misconception people have about surrogacy?
The biggest misconception people have about surrogacy is that we do it for any other reason than to help create a family. Being a surrogate has many personal benefits, but we do it because we want to make a difference in people’s lives.
Q. How has being a surrogate affected your life?
It gave me an invaluable new friend. It also gave me great pride and happiness.
