Abortion

Biden Can’t Say the Word “Abortion,” Even Though it Was in His Prepared Remarks

Joe Biden failed to mention the word abortion in his State of the Union address on Thursday despite being in his prepared remarks.

Biden invited Kate Cox, who sued Texas who aborted her son after he was diagnosed with Trisomy 18, a condition that causes multiple structural abnormalities, and Latorya Beasley, a social worker in Alabama, who was denied in vitro fertilization treatments after the Supreme Court of the state ruled Embryos are “children.” The president went on for a few minutes about “reproductive freedom” and the “right to choose” but made up his mind skip in the sole use of the word abortion during his actual speech.

The speech read “Because Texas law prohibits abortion, Kate and her husband had to leave the state to get the care she needed. What her family went through should never have happened,” but chose of the president to replace abortion with “ability to act” instead.

“There are state laws that prohibit the right to choose, criminalize doctors, and force rape and incest survivors to also leave their states to get the care they need,” Biden said. “Many of you in this House and my predecessor are promising to pass a national ban on reproductive freedom. My God, what freedoms are you going to take away next?”

The president also targeted the justices of the Supreme Court, who were sitting in the audience, addressing the court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Center states that “Women are not without electoral or political power” and Biden argues that “Clearly, those who brag about overturning Roe v. Wade have no idea about women’s power in America.”

“They found out even when reproductive freedom was on the ballot and won in 2022, 2023, and they’ll find out again, in 2024,” Biden said. “If the American people send me a Congress that supports the right to choose, I promise you, I will reinstate Roe v. Wade as the law of the land!”
