If you’ve ever wondered what the process of creating our famous Lovemère Seamless Nursing Bra (“LSNB”) was like, let us show you today.
Sourcing
Since the support in a nursing bra comes mainly from the frame and the elastic band of the bra, every element of the LSNB is individually sourced by Lovemère from the elastane fibers to its straps, bra hardware, hook and eye closures, nursing clips, rings, and sliders.
Our bra straps are made of high quality elastic and padded for comfort. The hook-and-eye closure should be soft enough to hold the bra securely together. Nursing clips, rings, and slides, often made of durable, environmentally friendly plastic, should be comfortable and non-irritating to the skin.
Pattern making
The stretch directions of the bra fabric are incredibly important for the fit and support of the bra, so our pattern-maker used the smartest method possible to create the knitting pattern pieces of bra cups, the under-bust band and the center back panel, to materialize the bra we have in mind.
Knitting and Weaving Textiles
When it comes to choosing the fabric used to make a bra, how the fabric sits and moves with the body is the main concern.
The Double Construction knit, with its excellent stretch-recovery properties makes an important factor in the durability of a nursing bra. Knitted fabrics are created using a knitting machine, which creates interlocking loops of yarn and the individual fibers are woven together into a single piece of nursing bra fabric. This allows the final fabric to stretch comfortably with the wearer’s movements without causing discomfort or constriction. We chose China because the factory we chose had the technology to create our nursing bras using the double-knitting method we wanted.
It is above all that the owner of the factory is approved by Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI), an initiative established by the Federal Trade Organization (FTA) for companies that want to improve their social compliance. Participating companies undergo multiple audit tests targeting aspects ranging from workplace health and safety to compensation-related and environmental responsibility.
Trial Phase
To create a bra with the best fit, we enlisted the help of real moms, all of different heights/body shapes/weights, to evaluate the feel, fit and functionality of the bras as they do the their busy daily lives of parenting, caring, and working.
We had to make sure the fabric and elasticity would hold up well despite regular use and washing so we ran countless washing tests.
These tests form the final but most important stage to see if our product can live up to the standards we stand for.
Production and Quality Control
Sewing underwear is very different from general sewing. A nursing bra in particular, is one of the most challenging garments you can sew and so we only use seamstresses who are meticulous and precise.
Once production is completed, each nursing bra goes through rigorous quality control testing. Bras are remeasured to ensure they are the correct size.
Upon arrival at the Singapore warehouse, we run them through another round of quality control checks before we deem them fit for delivery. It is from the warehouse that all our items are shipped worldwide to your doorstep.
At Lovemère, quality is more than enough; This also means that our product should be long wearing. The real test between LSNB and other similar nursing bras is just this- LSNB is able to maintain the shape of its bra frame and elasticity of the fabrics despite prolonged wear, with proper bra care.
